First, let me say that I am a die hard Dallas Cowboy fan and can't stand the Philadelphia Eagles. Now with that said, there is a contradiction I would like to bring to NFL fans attention of how the NFL hands out fines to players. I want to breakdown two separate but related incidents that have happened in the first two weeks of the 2009 NFL season.
Week 1 - Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Donovan McNabb rolls to the right and dives in for the score against the Carolina Panthers and Eagle Nation is going crazy. But wait! He ends up getting hurt on the play and Eagle fans biggest fear has come true. McNabb suffered a broken rib when Damione Lewis falls on top him after the play was clearly over. McNabb misses Week 2 and still is a game time decision for Week 3. What's so shocking to me is that I have not heard one person from ESPN or the NFL question the hit on McNabb.
Week 2 - Dallas Cowboy offensive lineman Flozell Adams trips Justin Tuck of the New York Giants because he got beat on the play and clearly stuck out his leg to protect his quarterback Tony Romo from getting crushed near the end zone. As it turns out Justin Tuck comes up with an injured shoulder as a result and is questionable for Week 3. This is all we have heard about since Sunday night but nobody is talking about the hit on McNabb. What gives?
My point is this -- they fine Flozell Adams for tripping Justin Tuck but not fine Damione Lewis for falling on top of Donovan McNabb and fracturing his rib after he clearly was in the end zone. Now that was a cheap shot and I don't even like the Eagles.
See for yourselves. Here is the Eagles highlight of the play that resulted in McNabb getting hurt - http://bit.ly/ezkKL
I tried to find video of Adams tripping Tuck that resulted in the NFL fining Adams $12,500 but instead here is the article from FanHouse - http://bit.ly/Hbbzk
I thought that one of the main priorities of the NFL was to protect the quarterback? I don't get the logic. Flozell Adams gets fined for protecting his quarterback but Damione Lewis doesn't for putting out a Pro Bowl quarterback in Donovan McNabb. Come on NFL - be consistent! Not a positive marked moment for the NFL.
