Marked Moments

life as it happens

How God's Economy Works

Lose to win. Give to gain. Die to live. Are you an active member in God's economy? If not, talk to your men's group leader, your pastor, myself, or a trusted friend who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ who can show you how you can have a personal relationship with Christ and start living the abundant life.

Clayphonic Street Team

The other day I was in the mood for some genre-indifferent guitar music and the first artist that came to mind was Loren Claypool. Loren has been a long time friend and I have always loved his music as well as his passion for his work. If you have been looking for some different music to buy or looking for a nice Christmas gift for a loved one who loves music be sure to sample his work at www.lorenclaypool.com.

He also has some cool Clayphonic gear for sale on his website. See me sportin' my new black long sleeve Clayphonic Records t-shirt - www.bit.ly/3JXHtM as the newest member of the Clayphonic Street Team in Charleston. It is high quality and very comfortable and looks cool with shades. :-)

The Passion for Self-Preservation

Our men's group is going through the 10 Passions of a Man's Soul by Mark Elfstrand and this week's chapter on the passion of self-preservation is the best to date. After reading the chapter I was able to add to my bucket list, recall a childhood memory where my untrained survival skills were managed by only by sheer terror, and study the question why did God build self-preservation into each of us. I will be sharing these stories along with thoughts and quotes from the book and our group meetings this week so stay tuned.

The Revelation Song

Revelation Song by Gateway Worship

Our worship team at Bible Center Church sings The Redemption Song fairly often and it is such a blessing each time I hear it. I was in my chiropractor's office the other day and this song came on the radio and it has been on my mind ever since. I am sharing the link to Kari Jobe's video with various clips from The Passion of the Christ, Nativity Story, Gospel of John, and others as the backdrop to this extremely moving song. Also, I have included Gateway Worship's version of the song who is led by Kari Jobe. Phillips, Craig and Dean has a version out as well. All of them are worth getting on iTunes. Enjoy today's marked moment and expect a blessing.

Trippin' Cowboy vs. Broken Eagle

First, let me say that I am a die hard Dallas Cowboy fan and can't stand the Philadelphia Eagles. Now with that said, there is a contradiction I would like to bring to NFL fans attention of how the NFL hands out fines to players. I want to breakdown two separate but related incidents that have happened in the first two weeks of the 2009 NFL season.

Week 1 - Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Donovan McNabb rolls to the right and dives in for the score against the Carolina Panthers and Eagle Nation is going crazy. But wait! He ends up getting hurt on the play and Eagle fans biggest fear has come true. McNabb suffered a broken rib when Damione Lewis falls on top him after the play was clearly over. McNabb misses Week 2 and still is a game time decision for Week 3. What's so shocking to me is that I have not heard one person from ESPN or the NFL question the hit on McNabb.

Week 2 - Dallas Cowboy offensive lineman Flozell Adams trips Justin Tuck of the New York Giants because he got beat on the play and clearly stuck out his leg to protect his quarterback Tony Romo from getting crushed near the end zone. As it turns out Justin Tuck comes up with an injured shoulder as a result and is questionable for Week 3. This is all we have heard about since Sunday night but nobody is talking about the hit on McNabb. What gives?

My point is this -- they fine Flozell Adams for tripping Justin Tuck but not fine Damione Lewis for falling on top of Donovan McNabb and fracturing his rib after he clearly was in the end zone. Now that was a cheap shot and I don't even like the Eagles.

See for yourselves. Here is the Eagles highlight of the play that resulted in McNabb getting hurt - http://bit.ly/ezkKL

I tried to find video of Adams tripping Tuck that resulted in the NFL fining Adams $12,500 but instead here is the article from FanHouse - http://bit.ly/Hbbzk

I thought that one of the main priorities of the NFL was to protect the quarterback? I don't get the logic. Flozell Adams gets fined for protecting his quarterback but Damione Lewis doesn't for putting out a Pro Bowl quarterback in Donovan McNabb. Come on NFL - be consistent! Not a positive marked moment for the NFL.

Something Squirrelly Is Going On

The day before yesterday on my way to the Bluefield Coal Show I was driving down Greenbrier Street and noticed an unusual amount of dead squirrels on the road. I asked myself wonder what in the world was going on.

Later that morning a buddy of mine called me and asked my why there was 83 dead squirrels on Greenbrier Street. At the time I had no idea what was going on. Then yesterday on my way downtown one little guy darted out in front of me and didn't make it. I tried to avoid him but there was nothing I could do. R.I.P. Mr. Squirrel. West Virginia has been known for its roadkill but nothing like this.

Watch the local news report by WSAZ at the following link http://bit.ly/4aaiSX and find out why the squirrels are creating dangerous situations for drivers on the streets of Charleston, WV.

Don't Look, Just Listen

Our men's group just finished going through the book The Prayer of Jabez by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson. As I mentioned in a previous post that The Prayer of Jabez was one of my inspirations for starting Marked Moments. It was great going back through the book again and delving deeper into the Jabez Prayer. Most of all I enjoyed hearing stories from the men in our different groups about the number of Jabez moments they have had while reading this book. Truly amazing!

First, let me define what I believe a Jabez moment is. A Jabez moment is when the Holy Spirit prompts you to fulfill God's work while in the presence of another person who needs a blessing. Sometimes these moments are obvious and sometimes they are not. So you ask how do I know when there is a Jabez moment if it isn’t obvious? The answer is you have to listen.

What I realized after many years is that you don't look for Jabez moments. You listen for Jabez moments. Let's think about this for a minute. If you tried to look for a Jabez moment I would argue most of the time you will miss it because the person that you are to have a Jabez moment with is searching you out and doesn't know it yet. That is why it is critical for you to be a good listener. Not just in business but in your spiritual life as well.

So as you journey through life be sure to listen for Jabez moments and I promise you will be blessed beyond what you can possibly imagine.

What is a Marked Moment?

A marked moment is a moment that occurs in my life, that in my humble opinion, is worthy of sharing with the world. :-)

It could be a reflective moment on a particular subject where I want to share my thoughts and insights. It could be a cool picture or a video. It could be a great product or service that is worthy of promoting. It could be an ah-ha moment that I have experienced in my life that has had a big impact on me and I feel that you would benefit from it.

A marked moment can have an emotion connected to it positive or negative or it could be random yet relevant. There are marked moments that happen in our life every day. Some are small and some are big, but I believe all are worthy of sharing with others.

All of us have marked moments in our life. Do you recognize them when they happen to you? Feel free to share your marked moments with me anytime.

I want to thank the three major influences that gave me the idea of creating this blog titled Marked Moments came from a sermon that Joel Osteen preached last year, one of my favorite books of all time The Prayer of Jabez by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson and last but not least one of my personal heroes Andy Andrews author of The Traveler's Gift. What really sealed the deal is my name is Mark and it just works. ;-) Enjoy!
